Asking what someone calls themselves is an inquiry that shows a small glimpse into a person’s soul. To know yourself and be able to precisely define who you are is to know your true identity. I am fascinated in exploring the woven and intertwined elements of my own identity. Surroundings, ideas, and interaction have all contributed to identifying a specific person but there are many factors that make an identity far more complex. My work closely examines the rapports of myself, family, and my acquaintances, as well as reflecting on inherited guilt, dominance, and looking at the undermining significance in identities. The use of a masked model allows me to position and scrutinize overlying themes and symbols my identity lends to me. For myself, the constant challenge of unraveling these mysterious truths fuels most of my desire to create photographs that dive into this exploration of knowing who I am.
